The new agreement between Tehy and the Finnish Association of Private Care Providers will be in effect from 1 May 2026 to 30 April 2028. The collective agreement applies to personnel in the private emergency care sector who work in emergency care services or transport.
– We are pleased that both pay increases for the agreement period will be across-the-board, with no local bonuses. The across-the-board increases will raise everyone’s individual salaries and pay scales. The increases will also benefit all employees equally. The key point is that the general increases will strengthen the pay level in the emergency care sector also in the long term, as they will remain a permanent part of the pay structure, says Vappu Okkeri, Negotiations Manager at Tehy.
Employees’ wages and salaries will be increased in two stages under the new collective agreement: The wages and salaries will be increased by 2.9% and 2.4% on 1 November 2026 and 1 September 2027, respectively. The increases apply to personal salaries and pay scales.
From a shop steward to a union representative
No significant textual changes were made to the collective agreement in this round of negotiations.
– However, as an important point, I would like to highlight the change of the title of shop steward to union representative. In addition, clarifying textual changes were made to the agreement to make it easier to apply in practice, says Niina Nurminen, a lawyer who acted as Tehy’s negotiator.
The new collective agreement also includes a pay-related working group between the parties and its objectives. Private paramedics’ salaries have lagged behind those of public sector emergency care workers.
To address the pay level, the negotiating parties set up a working group in 2022 to secure the attraction and retention of emergency care workers. The aim of the working group is for private sector salaries to reach those of the equivalent emergency care jobs within the wellbeing services counties.
