Unemployment fund and unemployment benefits

The unemployment security provided by the unemployment fund guarantees your livelihood if you become unemployed or furloughed and you are without income. When you join Tehy and the ‘Sotekassa’ Unemployment Fund for Health and Social Care Professionals, you are giving yourself security against unemployment. Joining the unemployment fund is like getting an insurance policy for unemployment.

We pay the Sotekassa membership fee on your behalf

Paying the membership fee of the Sotekassa fund on your behalf is one of our membership perks. This means that you do not have to pay the unemployment fund contribution yourself.

When joining Tehy, please remember to select the option to also join the unemployment fund.

Important information about Sotekassa membership

If you are not employed when you join the fund, e.g. if you are a student, on family leave or unemployed, your membership of the unemployment fund will not take effect immediately.

Membership of the unemployment fund only takes effect once you have a job. When you become employed, join Sotekassa here or contact Sotekassa directly. You can be employed in any sector, for example in the restaurant industry. The main thing is that you have an employment relationship, allowing you to become a member of the unemployment fund.

Select ‘Henkilö- ja jäsenyystiedot’ (personal data and membership) in the drop-down menu. Then, select the ‘Ammattiosasto ja työttömyyskassa’ (local branch and unemployment fund) tab

Membership of the unemployment fund can only start once you are employed. If you have joined Tehy and the unemployment fund when you have not had a valid employment contract, e.g. during studies, family leave or unemployment, your membership may not be valid. In this case, you will have to rejoin the unemployment fund.
