“Laura actively shares her work as a researcher on social media. She communicates research information in an understandable way to her colleagues and the wider public and brings up valuable highlights and observations about midwifery and matters concerning midwives, women, infants and families,” says the bulletin by the Federation of Finnish Midwives.
In addition to her social media channels, Laura participates in public debate by commenting on problems in opinion pieces and interviews.
Additionally, she proposes evidence-based solutions for developing services and clinical pathways, highlighting midwifery and its role in providing families with high-quality care and a safe pregnancy, childbirth, puerperium period and start to family life.
Laura has worked as a midwife at the central hospitals of Kanta-Häme and Päijät-Häme, where she was a well-liked and bright colleague.
The Federation of Finnish Midwives chooses the Midwife of the Year based on nominations, and the award announcement is published annually on the International Day of the Midwife, i.e. 5 May.
