Tehy: The recommendation issued by ministries and labour market organisations is clear – employees are entitled to pay during drone threats

The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health and central labour market organisations recommend that employers continue to pay wages in situations where their employees are prevented from working because of an order or recommendation issued by the authorities due to a potential drone threat. According to Tehy, workplace guidelines must now be updated to bring them into line with this policy.

Professionals in the social, health and early childhood education and care sectors work in roles that are critical to the functioning of society. The work that they do is a key part of Finland’s comprehensive security, even in emergencies.

– It is important that workplaces act in accordance with this joint recommendation. Tehy members provide services that are essential to society, and employees should not be made to bear financial responsibility in a situation where instructions issued by authorities prevent them from working, says Tehy President Millariikka Rytkönen.

Tehy stresses that employers must now update their own guidelines to reflect the issued recommendation and hold the necessary discussions with employee representatives on procedures in such situations.
