New member joining Tehy are given the option to choose a donation to the work of Mieli ry instead of the conventional membership gift. More and more people have seized on this opportunity.
– It is touching to see that members of Tehy want to be involved in supporting mental health work. On the other hand, I am not surprised, because as professionals in the fields of social and health care and early childhood education and care, it is important for Tehy members to promote a humane society where no one is left behind, says Tehy President Millariikka Rytkönen.
Mieli ry engages in valuable work nationwide to promote mental health at all stages of life. It offers services such as counselling in times of crises and in difficult life situations without referrals and at a low threshold.
The donation from Tehy members is significant in human terms, but also on the societal plane. The Finnish Government has cut financial support to many organisations. Social and health services and access to care have also been undermined. In the 2000s, mental health services have not received the same level of investment as other health care services, and the share of mental health services in health care expenditure has fallen steadily (source: Mieli ry website, content in Finnish).
With the help of the donations made by Tehy members, Mieli ry can offer support to more and more people in need. A warm thank you to Tehy members!
