Plan’s Girl Award highlights persons and communities operating in Finland who carry out significant work to promote girls’ rights and gender equality. This year's finalists are Millariikka Rytkönen, Vammaiset tytöt (‘Girls with Disabilities’), and UN Youth Delegate Adina Nivukoski.
"The struggles of today for labour rights and equality will determine the future of today’s girls," says a supporter who proposed Rytkönen.
Millariikka Rytkönen is known as a brave and determined leader, who stands for the wages and appreciation of employees in the female-dominated care sector as the President of Tehy. Rytkönen is an active user of social media, and she takes a stand for equality, body peace for girls, and human rights.
Plan International Finland is giving out the Girl Award for the second time. The 2025 winner will be announced on Thursday 9 October at Helsinki City Hall, just before the International Day of the Girl Child. There were a total of 63 candidates, of whom three were selected for the final.
