Anni Marttinen has worked as an economist at Tehy since April 2025.

At Tehy, Marttinen has written several blog posts on the economy, women’s position in working life, and the importance of nurses to society. She has boldly questioned the indicators used to forecast the economy and has highlighted the significance of human and environmental well-being as part of the broader economic debate.

Marttinen is known as a representative of feminist economics and as an active social media commentator. In 2024, she published the non-fiction book Hattaratalous, which explores and explains economic phenomena.

–I am delighted to continue at Tehy now as Chief Economist. Nurses are a large and vital part of our society’s functioning. Care lies at the heart of the entire economy – without care, we do not have a functioning society. Feminist economics emphasizes precisely this characteristic, Marttinen says.

Marttinen has strong and diverse experience in the field of economic and social policy. Prior to joining Tehy, she worked, among other roles, as a doctoral researcher at LUT University, as Chief Economist at SOSTE Finnish Federation for Social Affairs and Health, and as an economist at the Central Organisation of Finnish Trade Unions (SAK).

– In addition to pay and working conditions, economic policy plays a central role in nurses’ advocacy. Anni’s contribution has been significant in opening up new perspectives and defending the welfare state, says Millariikka Rytkönen, President of Tehy.
