Strength Through Unity

Tehy, the Union of Health and Social Care Professionals, is the biggest trade union for trained practitioners of health in Finland.

Tehy safeguards the interests of its members in both the public and private sector in various matters connected to work and working life. According to Finnish law, Tehy has the right to negotiate for the professional groups it represents in the private, municipal and public sectors.

As such Tehy represents a wide range of health and social care professionals who are a vital and integral part of our Finnish national health services. Tehy's slogan is "strength through unity". This means it has greater bargaining power in negotiating for its members.

The pioneering professional organisations in Finnish health care joined forces to found Tehy in 1982 to work as an umbrella organisation to safeguard the interests of their members, and nowadays continue to work in close parthership with Tehy.

Tehy's Aims

Tehy campaigns for better working conditions and participates in the development of education and training for its members. Tehy is also active in working to improve the quality of the health and social services in Finland, and ensuring equal access to quality health services for all people. In support of this, Tehy conducts research and surveys on various issues in the social and health care sector. Tehy aims to influence political decision-making in a variety of fields such as national polices on social and health care.
